Last Saturday I woke up with a nasty sinus headache. I was not feeling the day we had planned. I got up and got ready anyway. We went shopping and I got to spend some birthday money and then I took the four of us out to lunch. I was grumpy from the headache and also because stores just don't carry my size and/or a style that looks good on me. Anyway, that is a different post. So I went to lunch and set out to lift my spirits in the same way I had been for years. Food. I ordered and ate. I paid attention this time out of curiosity to see how the food affected my mood. I noticed that my headache was gone and I seemed to be in better spirits. We left and went about the rest of our errands. Soon after lunch I noticed my headache was back and I was beginning to feel grouchy again. It had only been about half an hour. My food high was gone.
Later that day I got a text from a friend showing me her post work out face while she was gone. I agreed to send her a picture after my work out. So I had committed to going running. I still had a head ache and almost rationalized my way out of it. I decided to go anyway. The first part was hard, but once I got going I felt really good. My headache was gone before I finished and I was happy. The headache never returned and I was in a much better mood. The good mood lasted all evening and carried over to the next day.
So my conclusion from this experience is that the high from food is not nearly as good as the high from exercising. Now to remember that the next time I feel the grumpies.

Good to think about. I have noticed a big difference in my mood and energy level on the days I go to the gym and get my heart rate up. I'm becoming addicted. Who knew I would ever learn to like excercise??
